Ghost Gardens
Belmont Welcome Pavilion
Found on Belmont University's Historic North Lawn, the Ghost Gardens Pavilion works to reconnect the central axis between the Belmont Mansion and Bell Tower that was disconnected after the Wheeler Building, formerly located on the site, was torn down. This design also provides students with a space to gather and reflect, while the design itself is also constantly reflecting the old footprint of The Wheeler Building at the same time.
I chose this project to reflect upon out of the many we did because I feel like it inspired a passion in me for the design process that deepened throughout the semester. I learned a lot from this first experience of seeing other peoples projects come together throughout the weeks, as well. As far as my overall curriculum, it wasn’t until this assignment that I felt confident about my decision to study architecture, so this project was really impactful on my outlook on my future as a whole. Once I found this reassurance, I started to appreciate the design process behind other things outside of architecture, for example, in films or in music. I also felt that I leaned more into the thought behind what I was learning in my more general classes.
